Culture of the Internet and Social Media

The internet is an amazing concept. It has allowed people from across the World to share ideas, and make lasting connections with other people. The internet has also allowed people to make full time incomes, and live the lives they have always dreamed of.

What’s interesting about the Internet, is that for the most part, users are allowed the opportunity to see peoples private lives. People used to wonder: What really goes on behind closed doors? Normally, it would just be a mystery. Though this mystery has been revealed through the pictures and videos people share on the internet.

Whether we like it, or not: technology has become a dominant factor in our lives. That being said, it is very hard to imagine what life would be like, if the Internet, and Social Media, were never invented.

There is an endless amount of information on the internet. Let’s say you want to learn how to tie a Windsor knot, change the oil in your car, or make an apple pie from scratch. All of this information is easily accessible through a Google Search. Not only do you have access to the things you desire to learn, or learn more about, but you also have access to information and videos that might save your life.

There are stories online about certain scams, such as e-mail scams and post mail scams to watch out for. There are also videos of people driving recklessly. There are also surveillance videos of people harassing or hurting other people physically. What am I getting at? There are videos, and articles online that bring awareness to people. Without the Internet and Social Media, people may have never found out about these terrible things, until it was too late.      This is a positive aspect of the Internet and Social Media.

Though what are the negative aspects? Seeing videos, and pictures of other people being successful, and having accomplished things in their lives, makes people feel depressed. People often think to themselves: “I am not good enough.” This is a natural feeling to have: When you see other people who appear to be living the lives they want, while you feel as if you are trapped in your own life.

People often wonder: What is the meaning of this life? We want to know. Though at the same time, we don’t want to know. There is a deeper part of us that likes that there is not a direct answer. The Internet, and Social Media have transformed the way that people view life. In a way the very concept of life, has lost it’s sense of wonder, due to these elements.

I often think to myself: What would life be like without the Internet, and Social Media? I used to be upset that these elements have taken over society as a way of life. I even abstained from getting a Facebook Account until I was 21, because I thought using Social Media would make me more ignorant, and that it would just be a way to waste time.

Though the irony is: Social Media has helped me grow, as a human being. I became a smarter person because of the things I learned; My entire personality was transformed. I fostered a really good set of friends from across the World, who had similar interests, and were also good people.

Modern Technology has allowed people to make lasting connections across the World. Though, even though people are connected, many people still feel lonely and depressed. Though this feeling of loneliness and depression worsens when people see pictures, and videos of successful people, who seem to be living the lives they have always dreamed of.

If you are one of the people who feels this way, you have to try and change the things you look at, and listen to on the internet. You have to find things that not only suit your interests, but also make you happy to look at and listen to. This is one of the ways you can become a healthier and happier person.
